This is the blog post that we posted the morning of her birth. We would like to introduce... Kamdyn Janell! Kamdyn made her entrance early this morning at 4:39am weighing 3lb 14.4oz and measuring 17in long. During the early minutes following the delivery Kamdyn struggled to breathe. Not surprising since I went from 6cm dilated to complete in minutes. Three pushes later she was here... the NICU team at Ball took amazing care of her and she was breathing on her own within minutes. Currently Kamdyn is breathing on her own. She took 2 ml of breastmilk (I pumped 30ml!) Because I am passionate about educating others about Trisomy 18, I want to highlight some of her features. Her hands are clenched. We knew this was the case from early ultrasounds. There are three fingers on her left hand that extend, and one on the right. Her feet are clubbed... “rocker bottom.” Kamdyn does not have an outer ear on the right side - it looks like it is folded over. I believe there is a small opening. The NICU team also pointed out that her ears are low set. Her eyes are set farther apart than normal, you may notice this in the pictures. Finally, Kamdyn’s head has a distinct shape to it. The frontal bones have a small gap and the parietal bones to the back of the head are overlapped. This may change over time. Can you see the hair?!?! I’m not really sure what to do with this...Thank you again for the continued prayers. You all have been such an amazing support for us. Next steps include continuing to support her!
